Ave Clesen-Schmidt | Paintings
Exhibition Opening
Ave Clesen-Schmidt’s work is characterized by its recurring motifs of water, sky, and celestial bodies; these elements she infuses with different layers of meaning. Water, in her art, becomes a powerful symbol of fluidity, femininity, and the cyclical nature of life—an ever-present reminder of the forces that shape our existence. The sky, on the other hand, represents a quest for transcendence, a search for meaning beyond the mundane and oblivious, and an exploration of ultimate truths. This interplay of elements not only reflects her deep engagement with nature but also her personal evolution as an individual, a woman, and a mother.
Her exploration of universal themes, such as the struggle to maintain one’s uniqueness in a world often driven by superficial trends, adds a layer of social commentary to her work. Clesen-Schmidt delves into what it means to be truly individual, questioning how we can preserve our distinctiveness amid a sea of conformity.
Ave Clesen-Schmidt is an Estonian-born artist and illustrator living in Luxembourg since 2017. Her art is deeply personal and richly textured, drawing on a wellspring of symbolism and mythology to create visuals that are both evocative and thought-provoking but equally playful and heartwarming.
The exhibition is always open during our regular opening hours: Mondays and Fridays from 1pm to 5pm, Tuesdays to Thursdays from 10am to 12pm and from 1pm to 5pm. If you would like a guided tour with the artist, please contact us.
